SUMMARY:Queer Cycling May
DESCRIPTION:A slight change from regular scheduling this month! We’ll be going out via the Pill Path to Portbury\, then along some quiet roads to Clevedon where we’ll stop for lunch (and perhaps a swim!)\, then return through Nailsea and finish along the festival way to Bristol. \nWe will leave at 10.30 on 31st May from Wapping Wharf where we’ll meet at New Cut Coffee (google maps link in bio) from 10 for anyone who wants to grab a coffee or a pastry beforehand. \nThe whole route is 50km and mostly flat\, along bike paths and quiet roads where possible. We’d recommend a hybrid/gravel bike for the Pill Path section but you’d be ok a road bike also. \nAnyone is welcome to join and we’ll ride at a social pace. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks! \nIf you need any support in coming along please get in touch and we’ll help out :))

SUMMARY:Critical Mass May - Festival Edition
DESCRIPTION:Critical Mass is a monthly bicycle ride to celebrate cycling and to assert cyclists’ right to the road\, happening on the last Friday of every month in most major cities in Europe and America.\n\n\nHere in Bristol we meet at 6.00pm at the corner of College Green near the hotel and statue\, leaving at 6.30pm\, on a route determined as we pedal.\n\n\nWe take a leisurely ride\, allowing us to make our point and communicate effectively with other road users and authorities.\n\n\nFamilies are most welcome. Cycling is for everybody.\n\n\nBy reclaiming public street space from their typical domination by private cars that pollute the air and endanger people\, we hope to raise awareness for:\n\n\n– the benefits of cycling\n– the need for better public transport\n– the need for more cycle lanes\n– cut down your driving\n– increase your fitness\n– car drivers need to chill out\n– cycling is fun and there are lots of like-minded people willing to do something to help the environment.

SUMMARY:"City of Cars" Film screening & Road Danger Reduction workshop
DESCRIPTION:https://www.tickettailor.com/events/bristolcyclingcampaign/2144310 \n\n\n\n\n \nBristol Road Justice & Bristol Cycling Campaign present: \nBristol film premiere of Sarah Chaundler’s “City of Cars” followed by Road Danger Reduction Workshop \nIn spite of Bristol Council City (BCC) adopting a “Vision Zero” approach\, aiming for zero deaths or serious injuries by 2030\, our road casualty statistics are not improving. BCC published data reports that during the year ‘24-‘25 138 people were killed or seriously injured on Bristol roads\, that’s an increase of 21% on the previous year. \nA recent media report by Bristol Live ran the headline “44 people killed on Bristol and Somerset roads”. This terrible toll on lives of the victims & their families is the consequence of more than 700 fatal or serious injury collisions that took place last year\, that’s almost two every single day. \nFaced with similarly shocking statistics and especially several child fatalities and casualties in 2023\, campaign group “Better Streets for Birmingham” organised a number of protests on some of the city’s busiest roads. There followed the creation of a national movement “Safe Streets Now” which held demonstrations in towns and cities across the UK\, including in Bristol. Journalist Sarah Chaundler has created a 25 minute film titled “City of Cars”\, premiered in Birmingham last year that documents their work\, the impact of road danger on the lives of local communities and includes an interview with Sir Chris Boardman\, National Active Travel Commissioner. \nWe will be screening the film in Bristol & we are delighted that Sarah will be introducing the film and be available for a Q&A. City of Cars is an insightful and challenging documentary\, whilst it is about Birmingham\, we believe that\, at this time\, it offers a reality check and alarm call for Bristol. \nAfter the screening\, we invite those attending to participate in a short workshop session on road danger reduction\, with the aim to draw the parallels & learn lessons from the Birmingham experience. The workshop sessions are intended to also create an opportunity to build a network of individuals & organisations who will work together to achieve a better outcome on our roads. \nTea\, coffee & water will be available at the venue at no charge \n\n\n\nLocation\nTriodos Foundation\, BS1 5AS
